It was a party to remember!
A week out and we're still stoked! Our September 26th party was amazing. We had over 90 people there, and multiple people have contacted us about how much they enjoyed it. To everyone who came out, we can't thank you enough for making our return event something special.
It was also a learning event as it's a new space and some of our staff have moved on to better and brighter things in other places. As such, we were unprepared for the level of enthusiasm for our space and our performers. They were joyful but exhausted by the end of the night, and the next day they had some regrets (it seems we aren't getting any younger). In the interest of transparency, we've some notes about what we could have done better.
We need a few extra staff to manage performers and maybe another performer (or two) to give them breaks.
We've people in mind for this
We need to be more up front about our photography policy
We allow photos, but everyone in them must give explicit consent every time
We need to be better about communicating our dress code & expectations
Our themes (this one was formal) are merely a polite suggestion
Pink bits must stay covered at all times, regardless of gender
We will be enforcing this more forcefully, as some male-presenting people do not feel this applies to them.
We should probably work out our next event date so that folks can know when to expect an announcement.
Our next party we hope will be sometime in November.
On a personal note, we have had several people contact us saying that our event was one of the few places where they felt completely safe and accepted. This hit us hard, not only because of how proud it made us, but also how disappointed we were in some of our community. We are well aware that there are specific spaces in North Carolina who do not accept everyone based on sex, gender, race, age, shape, or ability. Fetish After Dark will always be accessible to consenting adults, and only restrict our access based on behavior.
A major part of why we started Fetish After Dark was to educate new people on behavior and ethics in a space which welcomed people of all levels of experience and interest. As always, if you've never been out to a kink event, and are looking to meet people who are representatives of your local BDSM community, our events are a great space to do that. If you're just curious and want to people watch, that's fine as well. All we ask is that you be of-age and respectful.
